Room 407, Friday Evening

Having promised to make up for the slanderous talk of Francine's cookies, Merlin had tried to set up something romantic for her and him up in his proper room.

It had... mixed results.

He had managed to get candle wax in his only mentioned in one post beard. And had been forced to shave it. He hoped that wouldn't make her upset.

Right now, all he managed in the way of romance was a few candles, a movie he was almost certain was not pornography and some burgers from that Mooby's place. He was getting good at this romance thing if he did say so himself!

Sigh. Would be a lie.

"I don't know. But if I get a burger for saying you look better without the b--" Which wasn't entirely what she said, but that was beside the point because the other part filtered through right about then. "Oh. I'm willing to do that."

Somewhere the toe-dancy nerves had... not exactly died away, but they'd at least retreated to spy on the situation from a distance.

"For a burger." Merlin grinned a bit sheepishly, reaching over for her hand before leaning in for a kiss.

Afterwards, Francine, who was only sometimes surprisingly shrewd about certain things, admitted, "I would've done that for free, you know."

And somewhere Turtle Wexler facepalmed.

It was okay, Merlin wasn't going to tell her.

...she scared him a bit.

"I would have given them to you even if you hadn't kissed me."

"I know." She sucked at bargaining, too. In addition to the holding in laughter thing.

"I got a movie for us." A beat. "I got it myself, so it's not pornography, I promise."

"Ha, ha." Merlin tugged on her hand to sit down with him on the bed. "I know, I know."

"Sorry, I'm not laughing at you," she tried to reassure him. "I'm laughing with you."

"Of course you are." Merlin offered the bag of... slightly cold now burger to her. Romantic, right?

Francine had low standards, remember? Still, her smile was a tiny bit pastede on yay when she pulled one of the burgers out.

"Hmm."

"Sorry, I got busy with the... shaving bit." Sigh. "I'll make it up to you!"

Even though this was making something up to her.

"I was more hmm-ing over the onions than the cold," Francine told him.

"It's alright, I'm not that great at this." In retrospect, the wax thing should have been a warning.

Francine set the bag down. "You're just fine at this." She gave him an encouraging smile. "I like onions. You just might not want me to eat them if you were planning to kiss me again."

"Oh." Merlin's eyes went wide for a moment. "We could have them after we're done."

Kissing. After they were done kissing.

Oh, look, that's where the dancing toes got to. "After we're done? Um. Yes. I guess we could. Yes."

"Yes." His voice managed to stay even. He was completely proud of himself there. "We could--um." He leaned over, bumping her nose with his awkwardly.

And she was completely proud of herself for not saying ow. She did wince, but she was hoping he was a little too close to focus on that. "Um," she agreed, not entirely sure what she was agreeing to, but dammit, she was agreeable.

Merlin said it for her. "Ow." He pulled back, trying to figure out the angle again.

"You--?"

She tilted her head, more out of, well, headtilt, than to help him with the angle, but it might have improved things. "I what?" Crap, did she do something wrong?

"Is this alright?" Merlin asked, turning his body to face her fully. "I mean. This isn't too forward?"

Her eyebrows rose a little, because so far he'd handed her a bag of lukewarm burgers and kissed her, and neither of those things was anywhere near as forward as what they'd been doing in his cabin, let alone on that one more drunkerer occasion.

Which meant this must be something they hadn't gotten to yet, which meant she'd obviously done the right thing by stuffing a Certain Publication into her backpack as, um, emergency reference material, which meant... she was probably taking too long to answer that question.

"No?" she squeaked.

"Are you sure?" Because, good god, he wasn't even sure what to do next. There was kissing and then... they should have burgers then. Yes. That would solve everything.
