So, he clinging to Arthur not unlike some sort of aquatic creature. Because it was comfortable for him at least.

"Well, Rhys," Merlin said with his best smile. "How old are your parents?"

"More than thirty," Rhys supplied, giving Merlin a massively weirded-out look.

His head turned away from Merlin's hip so he could squint at Arthur as well. "Finally shaved, then?"

Arthur stared back at him. "What?"

Arthur with a beard was a bit funny, to be perfectly honest. "Do we look that old?"

Rhys's brow furrowed as he thought. "D'you zap us to the past again?"

"No," Arthur said, interrupting, "I want to know more about this beard thing."

"You're--a bit in the past," Merlin said. "And he's never had a beard."

Merlin was going to get brained by a pillow in three... two...

Oh, like that would stop him. "It would be all patchy!"

"I am perfectly capable of managing facial hair befitting my station," Arthur said, primly.

"It is rather patchy," Rhys said, hopping up to sit on the bed. He kicked out his legs.

"Stop mocking my beard. It's hardly clever."

Arthur, you didn't even have a beard yet.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sure it's very manly."

"Good," said Arthur, looking suspicious, but slightly more mollified. "As long as you're aware of that."

"Alright." He glanced over at Rhys. "...what should we do then?"

"Sword practice?" Rhys proposed, hopefully. "And then maybe we can ride Hengroen!"

"That sounds perfect, don't you think, Arthur?"

Arthur muttered something about beards under his breath.

"...But we can manage sword practice," he said, finally.

Merlin gave him a pleading look at that. Silently asking him to be kind.

... Oh, sure. Give him the puppy dog eyes. He was a knight. He could easily withstand that kind of--

"...and we can go riding," he muttered, "Although I have no idea who Hengroen is."

That would come with time, yes.

Rhys beamed like a madman and practically hurled himself at Arthur's knees.

Arthur looked... more than a little confused about it.

"That would take more than an afternoon, Merlin," Arthur muttered, patting the bo awkwardly on the back.
