After the list of chores that comes from the morning after Arthur's broadcast and then class, Merlin was just settling in to have a spot of private time to read his book. Anything about drinking blood and red eyes would be good to find out more on.

No such luck so far. But he wasn't giving up hope!

"I think it depends on the gremlin," he said. "One of my teachers thought he was a singer and dressed up in a leather leotard and sang out in front of the dorms."

"..." Merlin was not going to laugh. Really. "Which one?"

"Professor Dex," he said. "But Professor Skywalker was with him. They were playing husband and wife."

Okay, now he couldn't help but laugh. "I certainly hope that never happens to me."

"Don't jinx yourself," Hannibal said, laughing himself. "And if you see a gremlin, just pray that you're quicker than it."

"What do they look like?"

"Small, green and not at all human," he supplied. "They like to hide but they're not always quiet about it."

"That, I will keep in mind." There was a pause as he thought about it. "There aren't any... dangerous side effects?"

"Not that I've seen," he said after a moment. "Just silly, mostly. I mean, it hurts when they bite you but then you kind of just go insane for a few hours."

...maybe it wouldn't hurt Arthur to be bitten.

"Have you even been bitten?"

"Nah, I've just witnessed one," he said, shaking his head. "I've heard a lot about them, though. They get mentioned in the same breath as glitter and shirtlessness a lot."

"Glitter and shirtlessness?" God help Merlin's sanity. "What do they have to do with insanity?"

"...I have so let you down but so has everyone else," he said. "Shirtlessness is easy. Girl's like when boys take their shirts off. That's all."

"You mean girls like it when boys with something to show off, remove their shirts."

"I bet you're deceptively strong," Hannibal said, resisting the urge to poke Merlin for the moment. "You're wiry."

"Wiry like a twig," Merlin replied, laughing. "I'm well aware that my skills don't lie in the way of the physical strength."

"Well, then, we can avoid shirtlessness," he decided. "Glitter's a little harder to explain. There's a rumor that if a guy gets hit with glitter, it'll make him want to kiss another guy."

"Magical glitter?"

"See, I don't know if anyone knows," he said. "I've just heard it called glitter. Just random glitter."

"I'll try my best to avoid the compulsion to kiss people caused by glitter." See, this was why this place was both wonderful and awful at the same time.

"Yeah, I tend to find kissing people because you want to is more fun anyway," he said. "The glitter's just a good excuse."

"Just randomly kissing them?"

"Well, no, I don't randomly kiss anyone," he said. "I mean, I make sure they want it too. No forcing it or anything."

"How on earth would you know that?" Merlin needed a ticket to the clue boat with this sort of thing.

"There are usually signals," Hannibal said. Poor, innocent Merlin was going to have some interesting times in the next few months. "It's not hard to tell when a guy or a girl wants to kiss you. They might touch your hand or their breathing picks up when you get close or some might even ask you to kiss them."
