Room 407, Friday Evening

No candles, no burgers, nothing that Merlin had tried before for romance was happening tonight. That ended badly the last time to he was switching it up.

With cookies.

He even managed to get a bit of a variety pack so Francine could pick and chose what she liked best.

It was the culinary equivalent to Barry White.

The squeaking made her have to cover her mouth so as not to laugh; it's debatable whether that was 'help' or not, but at least it distracted Francine from feeling awkward.

And then made her feel guilty enough to stretch up and drop a kiss on his forehead, because really.

Merlin had to laugh just once at himself there. It was either that or die of embarrassment. He reached as far as he could and gave her a bit of a hopeful look to help removing them then rest of the way.

Which would require either rolling off him or athletics at levels that cheerleaders would stare in awe over, if she didn't want to break something on someone.

Francine was no cheerleader, so.... yeah. On the plus side, not being in her previous position as she shimmied them the rest of the way off solved the problem of omghurryup, at least temporarily.

As long as he didn't look at the shimmying. Or think too much about it. Oh gosh, that ceiling was interesting tonight, wasn't it?

"I think, um, I put what you brought in the dresser."

She almost said 'The cookies?' and then she remembered that for once, she didn't bring the cookies. Francine Peters, saved from looking like an idiot by Jeff, the God of Biscuits.

She got up without breaking anything on anyone...or tripping over her own underwear, and we'll all just pretend not to notice how close a call that was.

"Which drawer?"

No, Merlin was actually laying on those. So many crumbs. So many damn crumbs. "Top one."

"Okay." Right. Dresser. Top drawer. Wow, it was weirdly cold crossing the room without a shirt or a bra and right. Dresser. Top--- "Um. Merlin?"

"Hmm?"

There was a dvd case on his dresser.

It was not the dvd case of a romantic comedy.

"I--" This time she did say WHAT ARE YOU DOING, FRANCINE? but thankfully only in her head. And then she yanked the top drawer open and pretended she didn't see a dvd case. "No glow in the dark, right?"

He hadn't noticed! it was Chuuuuucks!

Luckily he was still unaware of it, though. So he just nodded. "That was... odd to see."

Right, so the choice was grape, kiwi, black, or there is an octopus in this condom packet.

She went for the octopus.

Why she felt the urge to cover herself with her arm as she walked back to the bed, she didn't know.

Oh, the octopus of confusion.

Merlin just tilted his head from his position on the bed, watching her as she returned with more calm than he really felt. Any moment now someone could break a limb if they weren't careful. Because it was them.

About half way into he walking back, he remembered his pants were still on. That maaaay put a damper on using a condom.

It miiiiight, yes. Which, shockingly, Francine noticed before getting back to the bed.

"You might want to, um." The gesture was, unfortunately, with the hand most likely to be really distracting via what moving it revealed again, but it was vaguely in the direction of Merlin's pants.

That right there would be Merlin trying his best to wriggle on out of his trousers while also trying not to stare. Again.

They were very distracting!

That right there would be Francine demonstrating that she could in fact flush more places than her face. While making it back to the bed and also trying not to stare.

They made a very good pair there. And the ceiling remained a fascinating place to stare at. He ought to put art up there.

It took a moment, but he was kicking his trousers off his ankles before there was more nearness there. Yes. Um.

Awkward.

Luckily opening the condom packet at least gave her something productive to stare at as she dropped to one knee on the edge of the bed. "Well, it's not green."

"Or grape," Merlin offered, working on that sense of humor.

"Or an octopus." She was allowed to read her own narrative, dammit knew just exactly how bad she'd been at sign language last time, yes. It just looked like any other one she'd ever seen in a demonstration, though.

Merlin just tried not to laugh as he tilted his head. "That would be painful, I think."

Francine dropped her face to her hand for a second, half to cover the laugh and half because WHAT. What comes out of your mouth, Miss Peters?

Oh, also half because otherwise with the task of opening it over with, she had nowhere else to stare. Yes, that was three halves. "Do you...?" She held the condom out, sort of in Merlin's direction. It was hard to tell with the face hand thing.

Merlin sat up, biting his lip and taking the offered condom. "I remember how," He muttered.

"I'm glad one of us does." Octopus. What. Yeah, she was still on that.

Putting the condom on the bed next to him, Merlin grabbed her arm to pull her close enough to kiss her first. "It's alright, you know."

Maybe if he stopped laughing that would make it more believable.
