The Barn, Thursday Morning

With the puppy still in the process of learning not to piddle indoors, Merlin found himself down in the barn all night to keep her company rather than clean up in the morning. It was actually rather warm even in the cool of the night. All the horses, after all.

And a puppy that decided to sleep curled up on his back.

"Brynne, you're going to make me unable to walk if you do that again," Merlin grumbled, giving her an annoyed look.

Nothing about this bloody well made any sense. He needed... fresh air. Yes.

Despite the building being mostly open.

"I can not be around you. Enjoy yourself today." The last part was snarled and bitter. And yet he was still not going to think about why.

Arthur shouldn't be sounding like he was just smacked across the face. It was undignified.

"What?" Arthur was not helping his attempts to flounce storm out of here. "Are you going to sack me?"

"... No, I thought you said--"

There were times when being dense in Arthur's fashion was a gift. Now wasn't one of them, and so he simply stared, helplessly.

"I can not be around you," Merlin said, slow and deliberate. "I don't trust myself not to do something."

"What are you babbling about? Merlin--"

Yes. This particular brand of dense was no good during sex pollen season. Make a note of it.

"--Horses."

If that was your best argument, Arthur, you might as well stop trying.

And there went that bow string!

Merlin made an inarticulate noise of frustration and shoved him back against the wall. "No, Arthur."

And now his back was against the wall, and he didn't mind. This really was familiar; for a moment he could smell trees and he didn't actually realise that his fingers were curling into Merlin's shift.

"No?" A pause. "Liberties again."

"I am not one of your bodies," Merlin hissed, leaning in to kiss him hard and furious.

Arthur had no clue where the words of course not had bubbled up from, but he hardly had the time to speak them as he made a vague, strangled little noise in the back of his throat and kissed him back.

It wasn't as hard, or as sudden, on his side; the power started to leak in as they went.

Merlin kept his hand on Arthur's chest, pinning him there with more than just that physical force. He'd hate himself extra later.

"You're my prince," Merlin said, shoving a leg between Arthur's.

One of these days, Arthur thought, faintly, and he didn't have a clue why, someone's going to have to show Merlin there's more tricks than that.

As it was, his fingers in Merlin's shift became tighter. Not so submissive now, or trying not to be, as he tugged. Forwards? Upwards? One of both. "Merlin--"

It worked for now. Anything else would make pretending this didn't happen not exactly possible.

"Shut up." Merlin was desperate now, kissing his neck and adding some pressure forward.

"You don't get to tell me that," Arthur informed the ceiling. The gasp that came afterwards didn't help add any power to the statement, but maybe the fingers digging into Merlin's side now would.

"Make me stop," Merlin said, maybe talking about more than just that.

"Your wish," he said, finding a last scrap of sarcasm in his body as he reached into Merlin's hair and yanked him back up, "Is my command."

It was easier to kiss someone when they didn't have their face buried in your bloody neck.

This was only going to leave them both bruised and not satisfied no matter the outcome.

"My prince," Merlin said fiercely, shoving him against the wall with more force.

"Trying to break my back?" No, there was more sarcasm left. And smug, bizarrely.

It was a desperate kind of smug. So he attacked Merlin's mouth to fend off the wolves of every stripe crowding 'round his mind.

"Arthur, do me a favour and shut up," Merlin muttered against his lips, moving both his hands to Arthur's hips and pulling him forward.

This was all together too much like that weekend, except his mind was slightly more present and accounted for where it was supposed to be. "For the last time, Merlin--" Arthur growled, hoarsely, and nipped at his lip, "You don't get to talk to me like that."

He grabbed Merlin's arse to establish that point.

Merlin grinned, something almost vicious for a moment. "You haven't stopped me yet," He pointed out, yanking forward more on Arthur's hips to make him ride his thigh.

His head fell back against the wall at the same time the words this is a very, very bad idea flashed on through it. He made a little noise in the back of his throat. "Bad idea," he muttered.

"Horrid," Merlin agreed, attacking his throat with the same fervor as he was going about all of this. "We can't do this."

Arthur gasped, digging his fingers further into his arse. Bloody hell.
