Room 407, Saturday Night

After a completely uneventful morning, Merlin was back in his room to study. Yes. Study. Not use this post as an excuse for pretty new icon use.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with him reading his magic book in the hopes for some sort of ice spell. Possibly to be used on the water in the showers here.

Nothing wrong at all! Francine even brought her own book!

...Not that book. Just a notebook.

She poked her head around the door a little apprehensively, wondering how bad his face looked by now. "Hi."

The bruises were fading. Kinda. Well, they had changed color, at least.

"Francine, come in," He said, looking up--yes, still like a panda--and grinning at her.

"Oh, God, your poor face." She came in and shut the door behind her, and then, come on like you weren't expecting it, "Sorry."

"It's not as bad as it looks," Merlin protested. And it wasn't, too! As long as no one touched his nose.

"You look like a raccoon," she said. "A cute raccoon, but, you know, a raccoon."

"...What's a raccoon?" Merlin asked after a moments thought on if he ought to let it go or not.

"...They don't have raccoons in Camelot?" Say it with us. Oh, Francine.

"I don't believe so, no."

"Huh." She held her hands about a foot apart. "They're animals. They've got a little black mask around their eyes, and sort of." She made finger motions around her cheekbones. "Stripes."

Ohhh, a badger! This was clearly another bit of words not meaning what he thought.

"Oh! Yes, we have those."

No. He did not look like a badger. Francine knew what a badger looked like, thank you. She'd looked that up, thank you Emmett. "You look like one of those. But a cute one!"

Well. At least they matched then. "Are you alright? Do I need to defend your honor from squirrels?"

Francine would stop blushing at that thought... someday. "I haven't seen any since Thursday, so no squirrel dumplings for breakfast."

"Good." Merlin put his book to the side, scooting over on the bed to allow her a spot to sit. "How are--" Stupid question. "--you?"

Not stupid, but a little odd, enough for her to give him a flick of a concerned look. "Fine? Good. Actually pretty great. Morgana and I are working on a thing to help you guys out with the reserves - that's what I wanted you to remind me to talk to you about, actually."

They almost had sex! He was just a bit concerned it was going to lead to more flailing here.

His poor nose.

"Oh? With Arthur's reserve or Tony and I's?"

"Yes!" Francine grinned. "Both!"

"What were you planning to do?"

"You didn't come through the lobby yesterday," Francine said, poking him on the shoulder. "Or you'd know. Kind of. We're going to set up something for the people who can't fight or use magic, so they can still help out. With first aid, or supplies, or food, communications, research, whatever." Just because the research part wasn't her talent didn't mean it wasn't somebody's.

"That's brilliant!" Merlin replied suddenly. "Karla mentioned finding a way to have safe spots around town for people to go. We could set them up with you."

Francine smiled and gave him a nod. "Arthur said something like that too. Well, he said setting up shelters if people need them." At the thought of Karla, she frowned a little at her notebook. "Karla is, um. Interesting. She wants us to keep poison on hand for her."

"...poison?" That was... new.

Francine nodded. "It's for something with her magic, not for poisoning people. ...Mostly. She said we could use it to poison people if we needed."

"We should probably not start poisoning people," Merlin replied slowly. Because, you know. Common sense.

Francine actually possessed that, most days. If it wasn't about boys. Or... her own safety, shut up. "Yeah. I'm on that train. But I just thanked her, since, you now. If she wants to help..."
