Merlin didn't remember last year with the children. Well, he did, but he was trying very hard to repress it, so...

He didn't remember.

So, he clinging to Arthur not unlike some sort of aquatic creature. Because it was comfortable for him at least.

Rhys pointed a finger at Merlin. "Ceridwyn cries all the time," he said, "It's not my fault, I didn't earn a portal!"

"...Do you go into--er--portals a lot then?"

"Don't encourage him," Arthur contributed, yanking the pillow off his head and slapping it over the one Merlin was already clinging to.

Clearly he needed it more.

"Not unless you make me go to the time-out glen," Rhys said, pouting a bit. "All I did was try and teach her to swordfight, you know. It's not fair!"

"And, um, who exactly is Ceridwyn?" Merlin asked, ignoring Arthur's instructions because it was like a trainwreck.

A trainwreck of parenthood.

Rhys shot him a funny look.

And then an imploring one at Arthur. "Did 'e fall on his head again?"

"I haven't got any idea what you're talking about," Arthur said, crabbily. This had already ruined his morning. "Sit down."

"I wouldn't send anyone through a portal," Merlin insisted in a panic. "Honest! I don't even know how to make one!"

Rhys sat down as ordered. Unfortunately, he did so on Merlin's legs. "Don't be ridiculous, Da," he said, shooting him a suspicious look.

"...Arthur. I think it's one of those weekends."

"What tipped you off, Merlin?!"

"Oh, bother," Rhys groaned, flopping back against Merlin's bepillowed chest like he belonged there.

"...hello." Merlin patted him on the head. "Um. Maybe you ought to allow us to get dress, yeah?"

There was a bit more annoyed groaning. "Fine," he said, slipping back off the bed. "But I'm coming back in five minutes!"

"Oh, please do," Arthur said, a little sarcastically.

But not too sarcastically. His 'I don't want to be my father' senses were kicking in.

As soon as the child was out of the room, Merlin was busy flailing off the bed with a thump. "Why does this keep happening?!"

"The island hates us?" Arthur said, dryly, and sat up. He rubbed at his face in annoyance. "I had been looking forward to a decent weekend," he muttered.

He glanced over the edge off the bed. "Although I'm not sure you rattling your brains any further is going to be much of an improvement."

He refused to think about the child's origins. Point-blank refused.

"I'm fine!" Really. "He's going to barge back in, isn't he?"

"Most likely," Arthur muttered, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed.

So he could pick up his trousers and put them on. "Try to remain calm."

Merlin glared, pulling himself up to start dressing. Odd how some of his normal clothing ended up here. Just in case.

"Well, he's certainly yours."

"Oh, please," Arthur muttered, yanking on a nightshirt because he certainly wasn't set on leaving just yet. "He was all over you."

Arthur would've never let himself be caught snuggling a parent.

"Blond hair? Attitude?" Merlin replied. "Sound a bit familiar?"

"You're the one he's calling 'Da'," Arthur pointed out, as he tried to figure out whether or not he could be bothered with anything else in terms of clothes.

Merlin shot him a look before offering over a better shirt. "He's a bit older than the last one, though."

Arthur rolled his eyes and took the shirt. "I was more well-behaved than that at his age."

Liiiar pants on fire. Although Uther would've never allowed him to leap on the man's bed or anything.
