Hoping this might take her mind off things and... not cause anymore random singing, Merlin had asked Francine out to show her a few of the herbs that he was almost certain weren't illegal. Though she could always point out if they were now.

...which might actually help a lot.

Yeah, good luck with Francine knowing about any other illegal herbs. Still, grass and flowers and a nice night weren't anything to sneeze at. Unless you had hayfever. Which Francine didn't.

She gathered her skirt up enough not to trip as she followed him. "To that bit of grass that looks different from all the other bits of grass we've passed?" she teased him.

"They do not!" Merlin attempted an affronted look and failed rather spectacularly.

"It doesn't look different from all the other bits?" She was in a discernibly better mood already, yes.

"They look like what they should," Merlin replied, grabbing her hand and grinning.

...was that more music?

It...rather did appear to be. "You're the expert! I think we've demonstrated pretty well that I don't know from herbs."

He had to take a breath before... Oh, the singing again.

"Live a life less ordinary, live a life extraordinary with me. Live a life less sedentary, live a life evolutionary with me."

Francine would've liked to take a moment to wonder where the island was pulling these songs from since she would bet cash money that Merlin didn't even know what evolution was, but like the island was going to give her that moment?

"Well, I hate to be a bother, but it's you and there's no other--" Francine broke off for a second there, tongue tripping over something invisibly off, but picked it up again after a blink and a breath. "I do believe.

Merlin grinned, pulling her close enough for something like a waltz. Only poorly done.

But there was enthusiasm!

"I know me very well--at least as far as I can tell--And I know what I need..."

Well, that made one of them, if this morning's serenade of the mirror was to be believed, but Francine was willing to let Merlin do the knowing for them both, then. No matter how wonky the waltz.

It was... nice to be on the same page with a song. "You blew away my storm and strife and shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me."

"By the way, I do know why you stayed away..." Except... somehow she was singing over Merlin's shoulder when those words came up. To someone else who wasn't even there.

It seemed to be a bit of a theme as Merlin added his own, "I will keep tongue-tied next time."

Funny how sometimes you could see the person standing behind you who wasn't there either. Francine pulled both their hands in front of them, dance form be damned, to look into Merlin's eyes. "But honey understand, honey understand, I won't make demands."

Merlin smiled, stepping forward to kiss her on the lips gently. "Honey understand, honey understand. We could walk without a plan."

Aside from her mother's, with the hope chest and the closet full of Modern Bride magazines and pre-schools already picked out for the grandkids she didn't have yet? "Honey, understand, honey, honey understand..."

"I won't rest in stone all alone." Maybe. "Honey understand, honey, honey understand. I'm all ready to go."

He smiled at her. "But you already know..."

So maybe this time it was her turn to pull him into dancing. Or, given them being them, over into a toppled pile in the grass, but the music seemed to be on their side with this one.

Really, only during this was that possible. As soon as they were no longer singing or dancing, Merlin was certain, they'd just fall over double.

But for now, he grinned and enjoyed it.

...maybe a bit too much.

Maybe just a little, if the fact that their feet were skimming above the tops of the flowers as they danced was anything to go by.

Merlin certainly hadn't noticed it yet. He hadn't gotten a broken nose yet, so this was a very good night out with Francine.
